Offering valuable info to patients

As a collection agency, a good percentage of our clients are in the healthcare industry. That’s not a surprise. People get sick and people need healthcare. The reality is, with or without insurance, the healthcare industry often must send patients’ delinquent accounts to collection.
One of the goals of the Professional Collection Service website is to educate our clients and consumers. Education can be key to increasing payment rates. Healthcare agencies can also educate patients. It’s surprising what the consumer may not know!
A news story hit the internet just this week siting a poll taken by the Kaiser Family Foundation. As summarized on dailykos.com this health tracking poll finds…..
“nine in ten (89 percent) of the uninsured are unaware that open enrollment begins in November—including, 76 percent who say they do not know when open enrollment begins and another 13 percent who name a start date other than November 2014.
In addition, two-thirds of the uninsured say they know “only a little” or “nothing at all” about the marketplaces where people who don’t get coverage through their employers can shop for insurance and just over half (53 percent) of the uninsured are unaware of the financial assistance available to help low- and moderate-income individuals purchase insurance.”
Political opinions aside, Obamacare (Health Insurance Marketplace) could help your patients to get the care they need and increase your payment rate either through insurance or lower deductibles. Perhaps you could display a poster announcing the enrollment dates and where to go to get info, or offer a hand-out with the information. You will be educating your customer and they will appreciate your effort.
